Empowering the Single Market to deliver a sustainable future and prosperity for all EU citizens (debate)
Date:
21.10.2024 16:49
| Language: LV
Madam President, thank you very much. Dear Lettes Mr President, I fully agree with your report that the single market is more than a market, and also with the shortcomings you have pointed out, both in terms of sectors: finance, energy, telecommunications and, in particular, the placement of private capital. If in total there are 33 trillion euros of accumulated capital in Europe and every year 300 billion euros are invested outside the European Union, in America and elsewhere, then something is wrong with this. And with public money alone, we will not be able to carry out the tasks that the European Union needs, both in the area of the military industry, in the areas of the Green Deal, enlargement and beyond. The medicines you recommend are also very noteworthy for the fifth fundamental freedom, the Savings and Investment Union. But some halls, like, let's say, creating in greenhouse conditions European champions who can become global champions, I am very afraid that it will not achieve this. This is all the more likely to deplete both monetary resources and human resources – the smartest people – from the periphery to some centres in Europe, which may not be a success story for the European Union.
